The Michael Jackson documentary which has been widely publicised and dubbed controversial will air on UK television this week.
Leaving Neverland is an expose film which focuses on two men as they and their families speak out about the alleged sexual abuse by the pop star.
British director Dan Reed has defended Leaving Neverland and said it will demonstrate that the singer was very different from his "Peter Pan-ish image".
Filmmaker Reed added in a statement: "If there's anything we've learned during this time in our history, it's that sexual abuse is complicated, and survivors' voices need to be listened to.
"It took great courage for these two men to tell their stories and I have no question about their validity.

"I believe anyone who watches this film will see and feel the emotional toll on the men and their families and will appreciate the strength it takes to confront long-held secrets."
The HBO documentary is set to air in the UK in two 90-minute episodes on Channel 4 on Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 March and will feature graphic accounts from Wade Robson and James Safechuck.
In an interview with the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire, the men claim that they were 'abused hundreds of times' between the ages of seven and 10 by Jackson.
The Jackson family strongly refute the claims and are suing HBO, believing that the film as "all about the money".
Jackson's brother Marlon told CBS This Morning that the documentary is "not telling the truth" and added: "There has not been one piece of evidence that corroborates their story."
Jackson's nephew Taj added: "It's always been about money. I hate to say it when it's my uncle, it's almost like they see a blank cheque.
"These people felt that they're owed something. You know, instead of working for something, they blame everything on my uncle."
Speaking about the documentary, HBO said it: "Documents the value of breaking silence, even when it implicates a powerful and revered figure."
The singer was previously accused of molesting 13-year-old Gavin Arvizo, conspiring to kidnap him and his family and giving him alcohol, but was found not guilty of all charges following a high-profile four-month trial.
Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50. He was found by personal physician Conrad Murray at his home in Los Angeles.
His death was recorded as an overdose of medical drugs following a cardiac arrest.
